Question

How do I enable payment pre-authorisations setting for my appointment types?

Solution

You can set up pre-authorisation settings for your appointment types in your Dashboard. This can be done for your online and practice booked appointment settings.

When a patient books, HotDoc pre-authorises and holds funds for 7 days unless collected prior. After 7 days, the hold is released but we store the patient's payment method so that you can collect payment. Patients must have sufficient funds on their card at the time of booking.

Upon charging the card and collecting payment:

  • If the final amount to collect matches the pre-authorised amount, we'll capture the payment from the hold.
  • If it's more, we'll release the hold and take a new payment.
  • If the invoice is less, Stripe will capture the payment from the hold and release the difference, while Pin Payments will release the hold and take a new payment.

Watch the video or follow the steps below for how to enable these settings for your appointment types.

Usage fees apply for pre-authorised payments for appointments and are AUD$0.35 plus GST per authorisation attempt, and will be charged to your clinic directly as part of your regular invoice.

Upon activating this feature, you will need to review, agree and accept the terms.
