What is HotDoc Telehealth?

HotDoc Telehealth allows clinics to offer phone or video consultations to patients through HotDoc.

Clinics can:

  • Offer Telehealth appointment types
  • Run Video Consultations securely through HotDoc
  • Capture patient consent for bulk billing
  • Manage Telehealth availability by practitioner or session
 

Setting up Telehealth

How do I set up Telehealth appointments in HotDoc?

You can create Telehealth appointment types and enable them for individual practitioners or all practitioners at once from the Bookings section of your HotDoc Dashboard. See How to create and manage Telehealth appointments for step-by-step instructions.

 

How do I set up Telehealth appointments in my practice management software?

Each practice management software handles appointment type setup differently. Use the relevant support pages below, then link the appointment type to HotDoc so that HotDoc-booked appointments are clearly labelled as 'Telehealth' in your appointment book.

Can I set up Telehealth appointments for certain times or days only?

You can use our exclusive sessions and custom sessions features to decide when to offer Telehealth appointments online depending on the practitioner's availability and preferences. For more information, see How to set up a practitioner for Telehealth appointments on specific times or days?

 

Telehealth video

How do I set up Telehealth Video appointments?

      +     

Telehealth Video is available if your practice uses Best Practice, Medical Director (Pracsoft), or Zedmed. See Getting Started with Telehealth Video Consultations for setup instructions, and How does a practitioner start a Telehealth Video Consultation? for how to start consultations and send bulk billing consent.

 

Do patients need the HotDoc app to join a Video Consultation?

No. Patients can join directly from their SMS or email link using a supported browser. They can access the consult via smartphone, tablet or desktop.

 

Do I need to install software to support Video or Telehealth?

      +     

No. HotDoc Telehealth and Video is fully supported through HotDoc's platform. The only requirements to enable video are an updated internet browser, camera and computer audio/mic on the doctor's computer.

 

How secure is HotDoc Video Consultations?

      +     

HotDoc Video consultations are encrypted and built to protect patient privacy. See HotDoc Telehealth Video Privacy and Security for full details.

 

How many people can join a Video Consultation?

      +     

Each Video Consultation can be accessed by up to 4 people using the unique URL link.

 

Patient experience

Who is eligible for the Medicare Telehealth rebate?

      +     

We recommend checking the Medicare Benefits news page for the latest item codes and eligibility criteria, as these are updated regularly by the Department of Health.

 

What are the screening questions patients see in the booking flow?

      +     

Patients are asked a short set of Medicare eligibility questions before completing their booking. You can review these in What are the Telehealth Medicare Eligibility Questions?

 

Will the patient receive an SMS reminder for their Telehealth appointment?

      +     

Yes. Reminder behaviour for Telehealth appointments follows the same rules as other appointment types, with some additional conditions. See Will the patient receive a SMS Reminder? for the conditions on when this will send, and what will be sent.

 

Payments

Can I capture payments online for Telehealth appointments?

      +     

Yes. You can collect payments online for Telehealth appointments using HotDoc Payments. See Getting Started with Payments for setup instructions.
