HotDoc Walk Ins allows the practice to set specific practitioners as 'next available'. The patient can then choose if they want whatever appointment is available next, or even whether they prefer the next available appointment from a female or male practitioner.

Locating HotDoc Walk In Settings on the Dashboard
On the HotDoc Dashboard, go to Check-in > Settings and then click on Walk Ins in the small menu. The settings for 'Next Available Practitioner' are found on this page.
Any Available Practitioner
If “Show option” is ticked, the “Next Available Practitioner” option will be shown during the patient's walk in booking journey:
Next Available Practitioner
Link Next Available Practitioner will link your next available option to a chosen practitioner in the practice's Practice Management System.
This is useful if there is already a dedicated 'walk in' practitioner set up, or if you have a specific practitioner who you would want to divert walk in patients to.
To link a practitioner, click into the drop-down menu, choose the practitioner and then click 'Save'.
- If a patient then chooses “Next Available Practitioner” when creating a walk in, they will be placed into the waiting room for that linked practitioner.
- If 'Show option' is ticked but no practitioner is linked, they will be placed into the waiting room under “Any Doctor”.
Next Available Female/Male Practitioner
If Show option is ticked, the Next Available Female/Male Practitioner option will be shown during the patient's walk in booking journey:
- “Link Next Available Female/Male Practitioner” will link to a chosen practitioner in the practice's Practice Management System.
- To link a practitioner, click into the drop-down menu, choose the practitioner and then click 'Save'.
- If a patient then chooses “Next Available Female/Male Practitioner” when creating a walk in they will be placed into the waiting room for that linked practitioner.
- If 'Show option' is ticked but no practitioner is linked, they will be placed into the waiting room under “Any Doctor” with a note saying "Female/Male practitioner requested".
