HotDoc Check-In can be downloaded onto an iPad if your practice has access to a device.

This guide will take you through how to install HotDoc Check-In on your iPad. Please complete all steps to ensure you have a valid install and that the app performs well on your device.

   In this article

  • 1. Minimum iPad Requirements
  • 2. Preparing the iPad
  • 3. Downloading the HotDoc Kiosk App
  • 4. Switch on Guided Access

1. Minimum iPad Requirements

If your iPad does not meet the minimum requirements, you will be unable to run the Kiosk app on your device, or may run into troubles logging into the app if it has downloaded.

In order to make sure the check in experience is consistent for both your practice and your patients, HotDoc Kiosk on iPad requires the minimum version hardware and software below:

  • iPad Air or above
  • Requires iPadOS 10.0 or later

To check your iPad's software, please see Apple's guide: Find the software version on your iPhone, iPad or iPod.

If your iPad does not meet these requirements, you will not be able to run the check in app. In this instance, we recommend that you secure a newer device.

2. Preparing the iPad

Once you've verified that your iPad is running the correct software, we suggest the following steps below to prepare the iPad for usage.

These suggestions will allow your iPad to perform more seamlessly as a Kiosk device, preventing situations such as the iPad switching off and not being available.

Change iPad Name to Practice's Name

Settings>General>About>Name

Turn Screen to Auto-Off

Settings>Display & Brightness>Auto-Lock>Select ‘Never’

Turn Passcode Off

Settings>Touch ID & Passcode>Turn Passcode Off

Deactivate All Notifications

Settings>Notifications>Turn off notifications for each App

Location Services On

Settings>Privacy>Location Service>On

Set Brightness

Settings>Display & Brightness> Adjust the level

Disable the Control Centre

Settings>Control Centre> Turn off for ‘Apps’ and ‘Lock Screen’ (if applicable)

Disable Siri

Settings>Siri>Off     OR   Settings>General>Siri>Off

3. Downloading the HotDoc Kiosk App

Once you've prepared your iPad, the next step is to download the HotDoc Kiosk app.

  1. Open the web browser (Safari) and go to https://www.hotdoc.com.au/download-kiosk

  2. This should open up the App Store. Click "GET" to install the HotDoc Kiosk application.

  3. The app will be successfully installed when the "GET" button changes to "OPEN". Once you see this, head back to your iPad Home Screen and click on the newly installed HotDoc Kiosk app:

  4. Sign in with your HotDoc user details (if you have forgotten your password, you can reset it using the instructions here):

If you run into any issues from here, it can sometimes be helpful to force quit the app and re-launch it using the guide here.

4. Switch on Guide Access

Once the HotDoc Kiosk app is downloaded, you're almost ready to start using it with your patients. Before doing so, we suggest one last feature update, switching on Guided Access.

Guided Access restricts usage of the iPad to just one app which can be helpful for preventing patients from accidentally quitting out of the Kiosk application. To switch this on:

  1. Head to Settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access then slide button to On

  2. Click back into the HotDoc Kiosk app and then triple-click the Home button to switch Guided Access On.

To learn more about Guided Access, please see Apple's guide: Use Guided Access with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
