Question
I want to give patients the option to opt out of Broadcast SMS. How can I do this?
Solution
When sending SMS messages to your patients via HotDoc Broadcast, we strongly suggest giving them the option to opt out of the communication they've received. This is important because as per the Spam Act, these messages must contain an "unsubscribe" option that is clearly presented in the copy.
When creating a new broadcast message, you will notice the opt out placeholder will be included by default. However, if you have removed it and would like to add it again, please follow these steps:
- When you’re creating your Broadcast message, click on 'Insert placeholder' and choose 'Opt out message'. This will insert the text 'Reply STOP to opt out' into your copy.
- When a patient replies to your message with the word 'Stop', it will tell our system to opt them out of all future marketing messages from HotDoc.
To opt a patient out proactively before sending the SMS Broadcast, please see How to manage patient consent with the Dashboard
